Thanksgiving Shootfighter Style
Of course im not talking about thanksgiving, though a cooked goose would definitely be something in mind
! Im talking about a lock and control, Yankyo commonly known as the goose lock (it has many names depending on the place but let’s make it simple
). This is one of the many wrist locks taught in Independent Shootfighters Inc Kickboxing classes and one of my personal favourites.
The goose lock (so called because the end position of the hand resembles a goose’s head) is a very snappy and effective wrist lock and causes extreme amount of pain when applied correctly.
I am going to best describe on how to apply it but I would always recommend learning it first hand from your instructor
. I am describing it as if I am to the left of my opponent. You can apply this lock on both sides.
- Position yourself in the same direction as your opponent (i.e. the left side)
- The left hand holds the opponents wrist and bends it, palm facing down, while the right hand slides between the ribs and elbow
- The right hand bends the opponents elbow and then locks with the left hand at the opponents wrist.
- The opponents elbow is resting on your abs or ribs
- Step 2, 3 and 4 are happening almost simultaneously
- To cause pain, press the wrist down and you will see your opponent tapping and in a great amount of pain
Check out the video below to see how to apply it

If you are still blinking, rush down to the nearest kickboxing class and ask your instructor to show you how to apply it and its applications.
Enjoy!!
