Bangalore Jujutsu Club

Of all the arts I’ve learnt (and I’ve learnt over 16 martial arts) Jujutsu has remained my favorite. That’s because in jujutsu even the attacker’s (Uke) strength is objectified. It can be used as an external weapon just as you would use a glass bottle in the vicinity!

Jujutsu concentrates on building internal strength, the strength of the muscles that form your abdominal cavity and thoracic cavity. This strength when supported by the legs forms a formidable pivot simply called your centre.
Then all you need is a surface either vertical or horizontal onto which to direct uke’s force. The result is quite devastating.

I’ve shied away from teaching jujutsu because it can be misused quite easily. But now I’m in the mood to teach. If you want to learn you’ll have to be interviewed by me and be ready to go the distance. Call me for more details. – Ashwin

Classes Saturday and Sunday 6:30am to 8:30am

I have done some taekwondo (Brown belt), it’s a great art but has its limitations, once the fight is on the ground there’s very little a tkd practioner can do, Jujutsu is an art that is supreme on the ground. In my opinion the Brazilian version is more practical when compared to the Japanese version but then again it depends on the practioneer.

I want to be a well rounded fighter, as different art forms specialize in different areas. My list would include:

Boxing- For basic stand up & punches
Muay Thai- For close range stand up, shins of steel (those low kicks and the devastating knees)
Taekwondo- For long range standup (Beautiful spin kicks, speed and high kicks)
BJJ- For ground fighting & submissions (Arm bars, triangle chokes etc)
and a little bit of Judo- For takedowns, takedown defense & takedown reversals (as they have the best understanding of centre of gravity)

A fighter who can use these skills as & when they are needed in the fight will always have a good chance.

Ashwin, I envy you, 16 different martial arts!!! You rock., I cant even name 16 forms.

I have studied Gracie BJJ in California as well as San Soo Kung Fu under Grand Master Jimmy Woo. It it great to see martial arts finding roots in modern India. I stay near Hebbal and have been looking for a place to work out. Your studio sounds great! Nice web site.
